Sailing yacht delivery from Bermuda to Tortola
Yacht delivery of a 157' sailing yacht
My first day at the beautiful marina, Hamilton. Aboard the beautiful sailing yacht.
December 2019
My first day of the trip started from New York, departing flight, saying my farewell to my parents and friends I came to see in NY. Upon arrival in Bermuda I was greeted by a great fellow at the airport, the ship's agent to take me to the yacht in Hamilton. We had such a nice conversation, while seeing the lovely country side of Bermuda, I had to make a stop to see the nice water side along the drive. I took a picture with my new friend and newly hired crewmember, Ben.
The trip then was to the marina, come to find out it was at the world renowned sailing Yacht Club of Bermuda. I have heard of, but have never been to.

Hamilton is the capital city of Bermuda, a British island territory in the North Atlantic. Along the harbor, Front Street features pastel-colored colonial buildings and high-end shops. The stone Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity has a tower with city views. Hamilton, Bermuda is known for being the capital of Bermuda since 1815.
And so my maritime adventure on a magnificent sailing yacht begins.

Aboard the sailing yacht.
My first day, meeting the current crew on board, and the guests. The guests were avid sailing people, with being on board for the sailing experience, come from different parts of the nation, and from Canada, and Ireland. It was a surprise pleasure to see such avid sailors on board. Turns out they were members of the world renowned American Sailing association, in completing their 'hand selected' opportunity to be on board the yacht, as their special sailing experience with the itinerary.

The time to familiarize with the vessel, and itinerary was brief, in waiting for the vessel provisioning, and other crew to arrive, and the yacht owner and his lady to arrive, also from New York. The time to familiarize with the vessel is always important, as every vessel is specific and unique in its particulars. Vessel familiarization is always something not to be thorough in.
I had some things ahead of me in the planning for the voyage. I am glad I brought my laptop with my premium navigation system onboard. lt makes voyage planning easier with the right tools.

Voyage planning and reviewing my notes and nav. charts and the electronic nav. system. The BVI and Tortola, Sopers Hole requires a keen eye for prudent navigation and some shallow reefs and drastic depths and elevation provides a scenic view and holding a steady course is prescribed. The winds vary, from the elevation, causes for varies gusts, and on a clear day it is more enjoyable for smooth sailing. This is the picturesque harbor at the west end of Tortola. Pusser's Landing is the next facility to the west, and features an extensive retail shop, restaurant and outdoor bar.
Navigating the Water:
Sopers Hole is deep and easy to enter, but a stiff current can sometimes be found here - keep an eye on your position as you enter. Enter from the west and make sure you keep a watch for arriving or departing boat traffic as you head in.
Along the south shore of Soper's Hole are the area marinas, each offering a different variety of services. Soper's Hole Marina, on the southeast side of the cove has the best facilities in the area with a large mooring field, transient slips and supplies.
Frenchman's Cay Marina is the first facility to starboard on entry and is equipped with lifts for haul-outs and related repair services. Also are transient slips, moorings and anchorage space.
For arriving in Tortola from areas outside the British Virgin Islands, there is a customs office on the ferry dock (north end of Sopers Hole), available to clear through, though they are open regular hour. Upon a late arrival at anchor, we went by tender to clear customs in the morning. The marina can be reached at +1 284-346-5501 Closes at 5:30 pm, local time.

Covered more than 840 nm the trip took more than 4 days with the heavy seas and swell. Arrival at Soper's Hole, Tortola.
I spent two days at the bay at anchorage to follow up with getting vessel set as the new place of berth. It was a good trip with good crew. Smooth sailing.
